Why do we learn physical education?

At Ark Franklin School, we recognise the importance of Physical Education to promote a positive attitude towards an active and healthy lifestyle. We believe that physical activity not only improves health, reduces stress, and improves concentration, but also promotes correct physical growth and development while also having a positive influence on academic achievement, emotional stability and improving inter-personal skills.

Through sport and other physical activities our children will learn about their responsibilities both as individuals and members of groups and teams. They learn to cooperate and to compete fairly, understanding their own and other’s roles and develop transferrable life skills such as tolerance and respect.

Our approach

We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, giving all children the opportunity to develop their physical competence and confidence whilst also developing knowledge, skills, and vocabulary in a broad range of sporting activities. We want our children to succeed and excel in competitive sport and physical activities and so offer all children chances to compete in intra-school competitions, and enrichment activities thus exposing our children to sports they may never have had the opportunity to engage with.

Children is taught to all children by a professional coach and swimming is taught to children in years 3 and 4, in addition to their weekly PE lessons. We cover a range of disciplines, skills and sports and provide many extra-curricular sporting clubs and competitive events.
