Why do we learn PSHE?
Our PSHCE curriculum aims to equip our children for the ever-changing modern world, physically and emotionally, giving them the knowledge to make choices both in school and the world beyond Franklin. Within the curriculum we cover health, relationships, safety, careers, and financial education, as well as focusing on the wider community and our British values. We believe that all of these will enable our children to be informed and resilient individuals.
It teaches pupils positive, healthy relationships with both themselves and others and to lead a healthy lifestyle including mental well-being which is as ever important in our current climate.
Through the use of discussion, they learn to make responsible decisions but also understand how to be safe in everyday life including online.
We believe it is important that our pupils are able to navigate the social complexities of the world, understanding differences of others and leaving Franklin able to show tolerance and respect.
It is important that our pupils become well-rounded and active citizens in our community. They learn about our ARISE values which are embedded into life at school preparing them to understand the links to our British Values and the rule of law.
Our approach
The school teaches PSHCE in a consistent manner across all key stages. All children follow the same headings in each half term with carefully mapped progression within each topic. These topics are:
-
Staying healthy and safe
-
Relationships with myself and others
-
Personal Development and the future
-
Being a part of our community
-
Understanding and managing money
Our curriculum is responsive and adaptable to the needs of our pupils. We aim to equip, engage, support, motivate and challenge their views and ideas, within a safe space, whereby kindness, honesty and respect are at the forefront.
