Drop-off and collection
In the morning, the gates open for drop-off at 8:25am and close at 8:40am.
In the afternoon, the gates open for collection at 3:20pm and close at 3:30pm.
You may use either of the two entrances to the school (Kempe Road and Harvist Road) to drop your children off to the school. If needed, you can enter through one gate and exit via the other. However, please be aware of the gate closing times and allow enough time to come in and drop off your child before the gates close.
Children in reception are dropped-off and collected from their classroom door, children in Nursery can be collected directly from the nursery. Children in Key Stage 1 and 2 classes will make their own way to the building for drop-off and be lined up in the playground for collection. Please ensure that the class teacher has seen and acknowledged you collect your child when you collect so we know that they are safe.
Nursery
The school day in Nursery also begins at 8:25 and always starts with a welcome session on the carpet. The children will spend their morning engaged in a mix of structured play activities paired with some carpet-time for key learning moments, such as letter sounds and early maths. Children who stay for lunch will go to lunch with all of the adults at 11:30 before returning to Nursery for more fun, play and learning both inside and outside the classroom.
Reception
Reception children begin their day with a “soft-start”, where they can come in and engage in meaningful play activities with their friends. At 9am, they will take part in their phonics lesson until 9:40. After this, we teach maths and literacy, separated by a 20-minute morning playtime.
Reception children go to lunch at 11:45 and have a 1-hour playtime. In the afternoon, children take part in free-flow “Explorer Time” where they learn through carefully chosen play activities with adults and their friends.
Key stage 1
The school day in Key Stage 1 typically starts with some structured learning activities followed by the morning messages and registration. Children will take part in their phonics or reading lesson at 9am, followed by maths and literacy lessons throughout the morning, along with their 20-minute playtime. Children go to lunch at 12pm and have 1 hour to eat and play. In the afternoons, children will take part in a wide variety of curriculum lessons as well as a short breaktime in the afternoon.
Key stage 2
Children arrive for registration and skills practice sessions before the morning’s schedule of reading, writing and arithmetic lessons begin. Lunch is at 12:15 and children get an hour to eat and play. In the afternoon, children study the full range of curriculum subjects.
Assemblies
Each week, children participate in two assemblies. Children come together in their phase team once per week to focus on key issues related to shared values, religious festivals, keeping safe and other aspects of our Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship and Economic (PSHCE) curriculum. In this assembly we also celebrate the ‘Dojo Champion’ for the week and share any other messages with the phase team.
Each Friday, we hold our much-loved celebration assembly. Special achievements are celebrated for each class and rewards given out publicly. These include our coveted Bronze, Silver and Gold dojo awards as well as updates from our sports teams or other notable achievements from the week.
